NSW, VIC Disability & Economic Ministers – Hundreds of Millions of Dollars of NSW & VIC Money Flows to QLD Because of Restrictive Planning Laws for Disability Housing in NSW & VIC
NDISP has More than $300m of Southern Investors Money Pouring into Queensland and More Coming
We would anticipate more than $1b in total of money that would have otherwise been invested in other states is invested in QLD because of the supportive planning regime for small (6 or less resident) disability housing and units in QLD.
Not Fair to People Living With a Disability in Other States
This redirection of funds is great for Queenslanders living with a disability, but it’s not great for the participants living in other states and territories.
There is enough money from QLD investors and QLD based funds to supply all of the specialist disability accommodation in QLD.
NSW VIC WA SA NT ACT TAS Disability Ministers Should Lead Change
While we understand that NSW is close to changing the legislation, it is not in force. The other states disability ministers should be leading the charge to change this legislation to speed up the delivery of what is the largest social housing project every undertaken in Australia.
Economic Development / Finance Ministers & Treasures Should also Take Note
While NDISP would always rather that a change of legislation for the benefit of people living with a disability was led due to a focus on the needs of people with a disability, if it is the economic benefits of change that drives the benefit for people with a disability we’ll take it.
There are hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars looking for a home, the next state to change the legislation will benefit.
