Apply for SDA in Your NDIS Without an Address to Move Into
While originally you did need an address to move to before applying for SDA, that rule changed almost 2 years ago. You can apply to have NDIS in Your Plan based on you your needs and where you want to live.
How to Get Started
The key things:
- an Occupational Therapist Report that EXPLICITLY identifies your needs, written using the correct wording so it aligns with eligibility criteria;
- a Housing Needs Report based on the OT report and the SDA rules.
Don’t Wait to Find Somewhere
Good places fill quickly. It is much better if you have your SDA approval in place, or at least in motion before you find somewhere to live.
Some Planners Still Need Educating
We found out this week that the LAC in a particular area didn’t realise about the rule change and was telling participants they couldn’t apply for SDA until they had an approved dwelling identified. While this rule did change 2 years ago not all planners can be across everything.
